Choose this tier in the board-on-board, cap & trim style and you will receive the nicest, highest-quality fence in the US.
Our fence pickets come from lumber mills in Canada and the USA (not from overseas)
Don’t be fooled by the so-called Japanese Cedar being peddled by all the other fence companies. The only thing true about this product is that it comes from Japan. It is 1/2” thick on average and is not cedar, at least not anything remotely resembling cedar as we know it in the US.
We tried this low-quality product several years ago and it is very substandard; to say the least. This is one of the main reasons we made the decision to switch to a true 7/8” thick high-quality Selkirk Cedar fence picket.
Information specific to our “Better” and “Best” Selkirk Cedar fence:
Selkirk Cedar pickets are almost a full inch thick. This thickness provides durability and longevity and also reduces warping to almost nonexistence. Thinner fence pickets tend to warp and/or split once they are in the sun.
Our Selkirk pickets are fastened to Selkirk Cedar (not douglas fir don’t be fooled) 2x4 rails with 2” galvanized ring shank nails and the panels are attached to the posts with Simpson Brackets and 1 1/2” x 1/4” lag bolts…. again; our steel posts are commercial grade and Made in the USA!
Over the years fencing material has become extremely poor quality. Fence pickets have become extremely thin, most 3/8” - 1/2” thick causing major problems after installation. Warping, splitting, and shrinking to name a few. Steel fence posts became extremely thin as well causing fence sections to bend or lean over in windy conditions. We at Red River Fence made the decision; years ago, to offer our customers the highest quality materials available to eliminate these ongoing problems.
Fencing around your home or business is an expensive undertaking. Cheap is cheap for a reason. We feel if you are going to invest in a fence, it should not be an expense you must budget for every 5 to 8 years. Our goal is to educate our customers on the various options available to them. You may spend more money with Red River Fence upfront; however, you will also be receiving the very best materials and installation experience available for your project.
Information specific to our “Good” Economy Grade Selkirk Cedar fence:
The 5/8” thick Utility Grade Selkirk pickets are an economic alternative to the #1 grade 7/8” thick Selkirk Cedar pickets.
These 5/8” pickets are consistent in thickness, width, and color; giving your fence a very nice appearance. Due to the thin nature of the pickets; however, some warping and splitting can be expected on most installations. The knots on these Selkirk pickets are not as tight as the #1 grade Selkirk Cedar pickets and may loosen over time. This can cause the knots to fall out leaving holes. While not prevalent, you should know and understand that it is a distinct possibility.
Red River Fence, LLC offers NO warranty on 5/8 Selkirk Cedar pickets after installation.
We do; however, warranty the structure of the fence. (I.E. The posts, brackets, 2x4s, and gates.)
